Welcome to the IT network of the university and the Department of Engineering and Communication

First of all, please activate your account at https://mia.h-brs.de/sspr/public/activate by entering your matriculation number and date of birth.
(If you have any problems with activation, please send a message to [email protected]. Currently, you cannot access the university's various IT systems with a standardised password, but need different passwords and user names.)

You will receive a department abbreviation via MIA, which consists of the 1 letter of your first name and the first 5 letters of your surname and the ending "3s" (vnnnnn3s - Thomas Mustermann would have the abbreviation tmuste3s.) If the name is the same, the fifth letter of the surname is replaced by a number, e.g. vnnnn13s, vnnnn23s, etc.

The best way to change the password for the PC, e-mail and WLAN is via the MIA website https://mia.h-brs.de/, as this also changes the password for connected services. Currently, this does NOT change the password for LEA or SIS access.
(If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it via https://mia.h-brs.de/. However, you must first log in to MIA once and enter a few questions for the password reset)

The password that you assign in MIA applies to the following areas, unless otherwise specified (e.g. SIS, LEA):

1. Internal department network

  • Application to the laboratory computers in FB03, with your department code and password in the form stud\department code, unless another account is provided by the lecturers.

  • Drive mappings:
    H: Personal home directory
You have a total of 2 GB of free storage space in this directory and your user profile. This area cannot be viewed by others.
    S: Student pool
Used for data exchange. Students and lecturers have all access rights here.
Data older than 1 month will be deleted.

  • There is NO data backup. Please back up important data yourself on a USB stick.

2. mail account

  • Your mail address will be created in the form [email protected].
  • You can access the mail via any newer web browser via: https://owa.stud.h-brs.de.

  • Log in with your department code (not your email address) and your password.

  • Your email account is limited to a size of 950 MB.
Please delete old emails, as if the maximum mailbox size is exceeded, no further emails can be received and important emails from the university may not reach you.

  • If you change the email password, this also affects access to the WLAN and the application on the computers in FB03, as these passwords are identical. Other passwords (SIS, LEA etc.) will not be changed.

  • Test access to your mail account, as you will need it to receive the SIS password and other university information.

  • In addition, you can also integrate your e-mail into your computer's e-mail programme via IMAP. The following settings apply here:

    • IMAP setting
      Server name: owa.stud.h-brs.de
      Port: 993
      Encryption method: SSL

    • SMTP setting
      Server name: owa.stud.h-brs.de
      Port: 587
      Encryption method: TLS
  • Here you will find a Instructions on how to install your university address on the mail client of your smartphone or tablet.

3. External access to the university network

4. SIS Student Information System

  • The Student Information System SIS is the central platform of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg for all formal matters such as exam registration, exam results, application for electives or re-registration. SIS can also be used to retrieve and print out study certificates or the NRW ticket. What is SIS?

  • Access via the SIS website: https://sis.h-brs.de.
On the SIS home page, you must first apply for a password for SIS access.
The password will then be sent to your university email account within a few minutes.
The password is only valid for SIS. You can change the password within the SIS.
Test your SIS access in good time, as you will need it for the application for electives and exams and to print out study certificates.

5. WLAN

  • The university has an inter-university WLAN network H-BRS and Eduroam.

  • Within the entire university, you can access the Internet via the WLAN network H-BRS.
The application is made with your department code and mail password.

  • You can use your Eduroam account to access the Internet at many universities and research institutions worldwide that participate in Eduroam. Apply with your Eduroam account: Fachbereichskü[email protected] and your e-mail password.

  • Further information can be found at https://www.h-brs.de/en/its/wlan-nutzung-an-der-hbrs

6. LEA Online Platform

  • The learning platform LEA (Learning and Working Online) is the central university platform of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, which you can access via https://lea.h-brs.de.
You can find information about LEA at https://www.h-brs.de/de/bib/lea-login

  • The application to LEA is made with your department code and your date of birth in the form ddmmjj. (IMPORTANT: After changing your password, it may take up to 30 minutes before you can log in to LEA again.)

  • All subject-specific and department-specific items for your daily studies can be found in LEA. For example, study documents, course assignments or the personal desk. At LEA, you can download assignments and teaching materials and upload the completed assignments. There are LEA courses to which you are invited, open LEA groups that you can join and closed LEA groups that you can become a member of on request. There is also the eCollege, where students can continue their education independently.

  • In LEA you will also find the FAQs on starting your studies under "IWK-Studieninfo" and "IWK for Beginners".

7. library

  • To borrow items from the library, you will need your library number, which you can find on the back of your student ID card. The password is your date of birth in the form ddmmyy

  • Important: The user name for the library is different from the university user name. The library number can be found on the back of the student ID card.
